Research and Collections Matheson Museum Research Library and Archives The Museum houses a library and archives with an extensive collection of Florida and local history books and periodicals, and a growing collection of local historical maps, photographs, papers, and museum objects. Highlights of the collections include over 20,000 historic Florida postcards from every county in the state; 1,500 Florida stereoview cards; a large collection of illustrations of Florida from Frank Leslies Illustrated Newspaper and Harpers Weekly newspaper, the Bone Photograph Collection, featuring photographs taken by local professional photographer Elmer Bone from the 1920s-1950s, records of local civic and social groups, and a large Alachua County History Subject File. At this time, two indexes are available on-line: Guide to Photograph Collections at the Matheson Museum (coming soon) and the Partial Guide to Manuscript Collections at the Matheson Museum. (Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.) The Matheson Museums library books are catalogued in the collection of the Alachua County Library District and are searchable on their website, www.acld.lib.fl.us. Staff will conduct limited research (up to one hour) for a $20.00 research fee, which must be prepaid by check or money order. Please complete the Research Request Form and mail to the Museum with your payment. (Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.)
